Acceptance
By using this site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site.
Editorial information only
The site provides reporting, commentary, historical context, research tools, and links to public records. It is not legal, financial, security, or professional advice and is not a substitute for the official custodian’s record.
No government affiliation
Behind Black Bar is an independent editorial project. It is not part of, endorsed by, or speaking for any government agency, archive, court, or source linked on the site.
Documents and original work
Many U.S. federal government works may be in the public domain, but status varies and third-party material may remain protected. Behind Black Bar’s original writing, design, selection, arrangement, branding, and annotations are protected to the extent permitted by law. Source links do not transfer rights.
Permitted use
You may access and share links for lawful personal, educational, or journalistic use. You may not interfere with site operation, bypass security controls, misrepresent our work, remove attribution from original editorial material, or use the service unlawfully.
Accuracy and availability
We aim to state the record carefully, but archives change, links fail, documents are corrected, and interpretations can be disputed. The site is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties to the fullest extent allowed by law.
Liability and governing principles
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Behind Black Bar is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from use of the site or reliance on its contents. Any non-waivable rights remain unaffected.
