POLICY / PUBLIC RECORD
AI Policy
Effective September 1, 2026
How automated tools may assist the work—and where they cannot replace editorial judgment.
Permitted assistance
Automated tools may assist with discovery queries, document organization, OCR cleanup, transcription comparison, summarization drafts, coding, accessibility checks, and formatting.
Human responsibility
AI output is not treated as a source. Material factual claims and quotations must be checked against the cited record before publication. Publication decisions, framing, corrections, and accountability remain human responsibilities.
Synthetic media
Synthetic visuals must not be presented as documentary evidence. The site’s current landscape social-preview artwork was created with AI assistance from the supplied Behind Black Bar logo and is a brand graphic, not an archival document.
Privacy and sensitive records
Sensitive personal material should not be placed into third-party AI systems without a lawful and editorially justified basis. Automated extraction does not remove the obligation to minimize harm.
Known limitations
AI systems can invent citations, misread scans, flatten uncertainty, and reproduce bias. Readers should follow the direct source link and inspect the record.
