Accessibility
Effective September 1, 2026
Our commitment to making the reporting and source trail usable by more readers.
Our goal
Behind Black Bar aims to provide a perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust experience across modern browsers, screen sizes, keyboards, and assistive technologies.
Built-in considerations
The site uses semantic headings, visible keyboard focus, labeled interactive controls, text alternatives for meaningful imagery, reduced-motion support, responsive layouts, and high-contrast typography.
Archived documents
Many linked government files are image-only PDFs, aged scans, handwritten records, or third-party interfaces outside our control. When a source is difficult to access, our reporting should describe its substance without claiming to replace the authoritative copy.
Ongoing work
Accessibility is an ongoing practice. If a barrier prevents access, report the page and problem through an editorial channel published with the edition or platform where you found Behind Black Bar.
